3. Detailed Specifications
Architectural Framework & REST Integration
Dicoding Event App was developed as a certification capstone project demonstrating modern native Android engineering principles. The application consumes official Dicoding event APIs through Retrofit, utilizing asynchronous networking and background thread dispatching to retrieve schedules, speaker details, and registration quotas. The data layer isolates remote endpoint parsing from the presentation layer, ensuring robust error handling during network interruptions.
Local Persistence & Offline Caching
To provide offline availability, the application incorporates a local SQLite database managed through Room ORM. Users can bookmark upcoming or historical events as favorites, storing the underlying event profiles locally. The data layer exposes observable streams using Android Jetpack architecture components, ensuring that any bookmark toggles or profile updates reflect immediately throughout the user interface without manual page refreshes.
Background Scheduling & Adaptive Interface
The application integrates WorkManager to handle periodic background synchronization and automated event reminders. A scheduled daily worker evaluates the nearest upcoming developer event and delivers system-level push notifications to keep users informed. The user interface follows Material Design guidelines, offering tabbed navigation between upcoming and past event archives alongside dynamic support for system-wide Light and Dark themes.
